Mole Removal in London
Consultant-led · day surgery · Harley Street, London
Mole removal takes off an unwanted, changing or troublesome mole, usually in one short visit under local anaesthetic. At Minor Surgery UK a consultant removes it from £225 including histology (lab analysis), with same-day appointments and a focus on minimal scarring. You go home straight away.
What mole removal involves
The mole is removed either by surgical excision (cut out and stitched) or by shave excision, depending on its type and position. It is sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis (histology) so anything suspicious is identified.
Checking for skin cancer first
Before any mole is removed, a consultant examines it — using dermoscopy where appropriate — to exclude skin cancer such as melanoma. We do not remove a mole as a purely cosmetic procedure where there is any concern, and every mole we remove is sent for histology. Between visits, use the ABCDE guide and seek assessment promptly if you notice any of them: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variation, Diameter over about 6mm, or Evolving (changing) in size, shape or colour.
When to have a mole checked or removed
Have a mole assessed if it is changing in size, shape or colour, itching, bleeding, or simply bothersome. A consultant examines it first (with dermoscopy if needed) and only removes what is appropriate.
Recovery & scarring
You leave the same day. Any stitches are removed after 7–14 days, and we take care to minimise scarring. Most people return to normal activities immediately, avoiding strenuous exercise briefly.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a mole could be skin cancer?
You can't be sure just by looking, which is why any mole that is asymmetrical, has an irregular border, uneven colour, is larger than about 6mm, or is changing (the ABCDE signs) should be checked by a clinician. At Minor Surgery UK every mole is examined before removal and sent for histology, so anything abnormal is identified.
How much does mole removal cost in London?
At Minor Surgery UK, mole removal starts from £225 for a single mole including histology. Multiple moles are quoted at consultation.
Is mole removal painful?
No — it is done under local anaesthetic, so the area is fully numbed. You may feel a small scratch as the anaesthetic goes in, but not the removal itself.
Will mole removal leave a scar?
Any removal leaves some mark, but we use techniques to minimise scarring and place incisions carefully. Most scars fade significantly over time.
Is the mole tested after removal?
Yes — the mole is sent to an accredited laboratory for histology, so anything abnormal is identified for your reassurance and follow-up.
How long does mole removal take?
The procedure itself usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, and you go home the same day.
Should I get a changing mole checked?
Yes — a mole that is changing in size, shape or colour, itching or bleeding should be assessed promptly by a clinician, who can remove and test it if needed.
